DC-cum-ACS Smt. Anu Garg visits to Sambalpur and Bargarh District


– Attended the inauguration of the Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project by the Hon’ble Chief Minister
– Reviewed the progress of work on major ongoing projects in both the districts

Bhubaneswar, 21.02.2024 : The Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Odisha  Smt. Anu Garg, IAS attended the inauguration of the Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project by the Hon’ble Chief Minister as well as reviewed the major ongoing projects in Sambalpur and Bargarh Districts during her official tour from 19th February, 2024 to 21st February, 2024.
The Gangadhar Meher Lift Irrigation Project inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister on 20th February, 2024 will irrigate 63,000 acres of land through 3100 kms of underground pipelines (UGPL)  and will benefit more than 35,000 farmers of 129 villages spanning Bargarh and Subarnapur Districts. Completed in a record time of 3 years following the principles of the 5T framework, the entire project will be automated through SCADA.                    30% of the command area will be irrigated through micro-irrigation techniques.

DC-cum-ACS had visited the Samaleswari Temple on 19th February, 2024 and reviewed the Phase-II plans. She interacted with the many tourists who have been visiting the temple from different parts of Sambalpur and Chhattisgarh and had high praises for the transformation of the temple. Further, the Mahanadi Riverfront being developed opposite Samaleswari Temple was also reviewed for the development timeline. On completion of the same, regular ‘aartis’ will be held on the riverfront and through the foot-over bridge being built, the devotees can use that to commute from the temple to the riverfront for the ‘aarti’.

DC-cum-ACS, also the Chairperson of the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), visited the Sambalpur Bus Terminal on 19th February, 2024 to review the progress of the          Mo-Bus service starting in Sambalpur. Accompanied the MD, CRUT Shri Arun Bothra, IPS, she inspected the site of the Mo Bus Terminal as well as the office of the CRUT. During the review meeting, Collector, Sambalpur, RDC Northern Division, Commissioner, SMC and other officials were present.

On 20th February, 2024, DC-cum-ACS, Water Resources visited the ISS Mahulpali worksite in Bargarh District with the ADM, Padampur, EIC, Water Resources and Chief Engineer and Basin Manager, Mahanadi Basin, Burla. She inspected the project, interacted with the team on-site to understand the timeline for the pending works and instructed the team to submit a timeline for the completion of the pending works as well as to ensure the necessary quality standards are adhered to.

The DC-cum-ACS then proceeded to the Nrusinghanath Temple in the Padampur Sub-Division and reviewed the transformation works. Along with the premises of the temple being renovated, a shopping centre has been set up on the road to the temple to provide better amenities to the tourists visiting the temple.

The re-development project of Hirakud Dam was reviewed by the Development Commissioner-cum-ACS along with the RDC, Northern Division, Collector, Sambalpur, Commissioner, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, Engineer-in-Chief, Water Resources and Chief Engineer and Basin Manager, Mahanadi Basin, Burla on 21st February, 2024. She also reviewed the on-going canal lining works of the Bargarh Canal, which is being done for the first time.

DC-cum-ACS, along with her team, then proceeded to Burla to review the 200 bedded Cancer Care Centre under construction. The centre will be a five storied building with 30 beds for Chemotherapy, 2 Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and 3 Operation Theatres (OTs). Further, the VSS Cricket Stadium was reviewed. The stadium is being retrofitted as per the ICC standards and will be soon ready to host national level cricket matches.

The major infrastructure projects of Sambalpur District namely Townhall, Cheurapada, being built at a cost of Rs 10 crore by the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC), and the JT-26 Railway Over-Bridge, Durgapali were inspected by the DC-cum-ACS. She then proceeded to the office of the Commissioner, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation to review the other ongoing developmental works of the District related to the sectors of Education, Health, Public Works, Industries, Agriculture and others. The review meeting was attended by the RDC, Northern Division, Collector, Sambalpur, Commissioner, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, CDO-cum-EO, Zilla Parishad, NHAI officials and other District Level Officials.
