~ Scaling operations from 1 MTPA to 4.8 MTPA~
Kalinganagar : The industrial landscape of Odisha is entering a new phase of accelerated growth as Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) is now set to commence the first phase of its capacity expansion from the existing 1 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) to 4.8 MTPA. The Company has received the Environmental Clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. Since its acquisition by Tata Steel in July 2022, the facility has demonstrated a remarkable turnaround, reviving operations within 100 days and achieving its original rated capacity in less than a year.
The development blueprint includes the creation of a fully integrated steelmaking ecosystem. It includes a Coke Oven & By Product Plant, a Sinter Plant, a new Blast Furnace, a Rebar Mill, a Coil Mill, and a Wire Rod Mill (Phase 2), along with supporting units such as a Desulphurisation Unit, Lime Calcination Plant, and a Captive Power Plant.
The Company plans to integrate advanced technologies to enhance production efficiency, operational reliability, and environmental performance. The expansion incorporates comprehensive pollution control systems, including electrostatic precipitators, cyclone separators, dry fog systems, bag filters, mechanised water sprinkling, and other advanced emission reduction measures.
The expansion will significantly contribute to the inclusive growth of the Kalinganagar region, creating opportunities for support services and related economic activity, while maintaining a strong focus on local community development, environmental stewardship, and overall socio economic progress. It will spur growth for ancillary industries, service providers, and logistics partners, integrating the local economy more deeply into the national and global steel value chain. In the second phase, the Company aims to further expand the production capacity to 9.5 MTPA, unlocking even greater economic opportunities for the region.
