Burla, 21 February 2026: Reinforcing its commitment to consumer empowerment and sustainable energy transition, TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has recorded a significant month-on-month growth in rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and its 1 kW Utility Led Aggregation (ULA) Model. The initiative has led to a sharp rise in zero-electricity bills across Western Odisha, reflecting tangible financial benefits for households embracing clean energy.

As of January 2026, more than 13,000 consumers in TPWODL’s distribution area have installed rooftop solar panels. Of these, 7,297 consumers have registered zero-unit electricity bills in January alone, significantly reducing their dependency on conventional grid power and lowering monthly electricity expenses.

As part of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, its 1 kW ULA Model implemented across Western Odisha, the number of consumers receiving zero bills has witnessed a remarkable jump — from 177 consumers in December 2025 to 979 consumers in January 2026, marking a more than fivefold increase within a month. reflecting the scheme’s direct financial benefits.

It is worth noting that under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, financial assistance from both the state and central governments is available for installing solar panels. By installing 3 kilowatt solar panels worth Rs. 2 lakhs, a consumer can get financial assistance of up to Rs. 1.38 lakh. Similarly, the installation of 2 kW solar panels worth Rs. 1.40 lakh, consumers receive assistance of up to ₹1.10 lakh, significantly reducing the upfront investment burden.

Under TPWODL’s special 1 kW ULA Model, eligible consumers can install rooftop solar by paying only ₹5,622, which includes ₹1,875 towards solar panels and ₹3,747 for solar meters. TPWODL undertakes the complete installation process and provides a five-year warranty on equipment and a 25-year performance warranty on solar panels, ensuring long-term reliability and performance assurance.

All rooftop solar systems are integrated with smart meters to ensure accurate energy accounting and seamless coordination between household consumption and solar generation. To ensure smooth implementation, TPWODL has established a dedicated Solar Cell with expert manpower to provide end-to-end customer support. The entire application and approval process is conducted online through the national portal, enabling consumers to transparently track the status of their applications.

With rising consumer participation and sustained monthly growth, TPWODL continues to lead Western Odisha’s transition toward affordable, sustainable and consumer-centric solar energy adoption—empowering households to move closer to energy self-reliance and zero electricity bills.
