Review Meeting held on Construction of 166 ROBs in Odisha

Bhubaneswar : With railway level crossings are getting huge traffics and creating problems for tress passers. In this regard Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) play a vital role in strengthening the road network. Replacement of railway level crossings with ROBs significantly reduces traffic congestion, saves travel time and enhances safety of life and property.
In this context, a high-level review meeting was held between senior officials of the East Coast Railway and the Works Department to assess the progress of 166 Railway Over Bridges proposed on Works Department roads at various locations across Odisha. The meeting was chaired by the Principal Secretary, Works Department, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh.
It was informed that progress of these ROB projects had remained slow over the past few years. However, owing to proactive initiatives of the State Government and effective utilisation of the Government of India’s Railway Policy–2024, a decision has been taken to sign a Memorandum of Understanding whereby the East Coast Railway will construct 96 Railway Over Bridges entirely at its own cost. By implementing such a large number of ROB projects under the new railway policy, Odisha has set a notable milestone at the national level.
Detailed discussions were held on land acquisition, quality of construction, timely completion of works, and strengthening coordination among various State Government departments and district administrations to expedite project execution. Nodal officers have been appointed for land acquisition for approach roads for 112 Railway Over Bridges.
The meeting was attended by Engineer-in-Chief-cum-Special Secretary, Works Department, Shri Lakshmikanta Padhy, along with senior officials of the Works Department and the East Coast Railway.
