AIIMS Bhubaneswar Establishes Dedicated Unit to Manage Heat Stroke Patients

Bhubaneswar: In response to the ongoing scorching heat wave in the region, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has proactively launched a specialized Heat Stroke Unit to mitigate the potential surge in heat stroke incidents.

Executive Director, Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, underscored the imperative need for this unit amidst the severe heat wave conditions. The unit, furnished with essential medical amenities and staffed by multidisciplinary medical professionals, aims to deliver prompt and efficient care to individuals afflicted with sunstroke.

Dr. Biswas advised the populace to minimize direct sun exposure whenever feasible and adopt precautionary measures such as carrying umbrellas, wet towels, and water bottles while outdoors.

Positioned within the Ayush department, the Heat Stroke Unit encompasses six beds and commenced operations last week. Medical Superintendent, Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, disclosed that the unit has already attended to more than fifteen patients. An emergency meeting, involving department heads from General Medicine, Trauma & Emergency, and Ayush, convened to devise strategies for the effective management of heat stroke cases.

Assistant Professor of General Medicine, Dr. Srikanta Behera, has been designated as the nodal officer of the Heat Stroke Unit. Adequate reserves of medications and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) have been stockpiled, and medical personnel remain vigilant to respond promptly to any emergent situations.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and urges individuals to prioritize their well-being during this period of heightened heat exposure.
