Tata Steel Foundation empowering dreams in Guali region

TSF’s Skill Development programmes attract youths for income generation

Joda: The life of Bharati Patra, a resident of Nuagaon village under Joda block of Keonjhar district, took a tumultuous turn at the tender age of seven when tragedy struck her family. The passing away of her father in 2016 left the weight of responsibility on her two elder brothers, compelling them to shoulder the household burdens.

Despite financial constraints, Bharati persevered through her studies and graduated from Junior College, Koira in 2021. Driven by a fierce determination to contribute to her family and realize her dreams, she sought opportunities to work. With no prior job experience and facing societal barriers against girls working outside, Bharati found a breakthrough at Tata Electronics last year and now posted as Technician in Tamil Nadu.

“Till completion of my Gradution, I had never thought that I would step out of my home, earn and support my family. I’m truly indebted to Tata Steel Foundation for the guidance to help me realise my aspirations”, Bharati said.

Not only Bharati, but other girls from her village- Nilu Kumari Gupta, Jyoti Rani Munda and, Nandini Naik from nearby Topadih village have also got their dreams fulfilled through Tata Steel Foundation.

Raghunath Naik, father of Nandini Naik, said, “Living in this underdeveloped area one can’t think of higher studies, forget about job. We are thankful to Tata Steel Foundation for giving wings to these girls’ dreams.”

Besides guiding young talents to build their career in sectors like Education and Sports, Tata Steel Foundation also empowers local youths through its various Skill Development programmes to become self-reliant.
