Tata Steel Foundation Launches Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for Local Communities in Bamnipal

More than 1000 persons have been trained from local communities

Bamnipal: Tata Steel Foundation (TSF), aligning with its commitment to community development and safety, has initiated a comprehensive Basic Life Support (BLS) training program at Bamnipal.

The primary objectives are to create a critical mass of trained, willing, and able first responders within the community, capable of providing effective BLS in life-threatening pre-hospital situations. Additionally, the initiative aims to enhance community coping capacities for disaster risk reduction (DRR) by forming motivated groups prepared to respond promptly in the event of any disaster.

As part of its CSR initiatives, Tata Steel Foundation has launched BLS training sessions covering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking incident response, and accidental case management. To date, 39 sessions have benefited 1023 individuals in 5 Gram Panchayats namely Tangiriapal, Rasol, Kiajhar, Deulakana and Radhikadeipur. The program has also reached Tata Steel FAP contractual workers, including two specialized sessions for 69 participants, encompassing security personnel. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Jayant Kumar Tripathy (Medical Professional), Soubhagya Kumar Das from Tata Steel Foundation’s Bamnipal unit served as the master trainer for these sessions.

Basic Life Support (BLS) entails vital actions by bystanders to revive victims in life-threatening situations before expert medical aid arrives. Timely BLS significantly improves survival rates, especially in sudden cardiac arrests and emergencies common in non-professional settings such as homes, communities, recreational areas, and road accidents. Trained and willing BLS providers among laypersons play a crucial role in enhancing survival outcomes in these scenarios.

The BLS training program emphasizes Tata Steel Foundation’s dedication to community health and safety. By imparting essential lifesaving skills, it contributes to community well-being and establishes a network of proficient first responders ready to play a vital role in disasters.
