Tata Steel Mining Honoured with Kalinga Environment Excellence Award


-National Seminar on Sustainable Environment & Climate Change – 2023

Bhubaneswar, June 17, 2023: Tata Steel Mining Limited (TSML) has won the prestigious Kalinga Environment Excellence Award for its outstanding achievements in environmental conservation and sustainable development practices. The company received the award in the Five Star category for the Performance Year 2022 at an event organised at a city hotel here on Saturday.

The award was conferred to the company at the inaugural-cum-award ceremony during the 8th National Seminar on Sustainable Environment & Climate Change – 2023 organised by the Institute of Quality and Environment Management Services (IQEMS) and State Pollution Control Board, Odisha. Sanjaya Kumar Satapathy, Assistant General Manager (Human Resource Management), Tata Steel Mining, received the award on behalf of the company from Pradip Kumar Amat, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, Government of Odisha.

Attending the event as Guest of Honour, Pankaj Satija, Managing Director, Tata Steel Mining, said, “I thank Institute of Quality and Environment Management Services (IQEMS) and State Pollution Control Board, Odisha for organizing this seminar and providing a platform to industries for sharing the best practices and learn from each other. This recognition to Tata Steel Mining Ltd will surely motivate us to further continue our efforts towards building a greener and more sustainable future.”

Striving to minimize its carbon footprint, Tata Steel Mining has been implementing innovative initiatives and adopting advanced technologies for conservation of energy and resources. The company has partnered with FluxGen Sustainable Technologies and implemented digitisation of its water consumption through a digital dashboard at its Ferro chrome units and mines.

TSML has also inked agreements with GAIL (India) Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for cleaner fuel for its Ferro Alloys Plants and has recently signed an MoU with French Cleantech company METRON to design and implement an advanced energy management and optimization platform.
