World Heart Day observed at Shanti Memorial Hospital


Bhubaneswar: With the study and findings, World Heart Federation had decided to observe World Heart
Day to create awareness amongst people that informs people around the globe that cardio vascular
disease, including heart disease and stroke, is the world’s leading cause of death claiming 18.6 million
lives each year, and highlights the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control cardio
vascular disease.
In line with the objective, World Heart Day was celebrated at Shanti Memorial Hospital, Cuttack on 29th
September 2022. From the Heart Day eve, i.e. 28th September, celebration started in the hospital with
decorations and free consultation on cardiology as well as cardiology health check up, providing such
service and consultation to more than 50 persons. On 29th September, free consultation continued by
which around 120 free consultations done with free ECG and ECHO test services. Free lipid profile tests
were done at the hospital for patients as well as hospital employees and their relatives.
Thematic poster completion and heart related medical quiz completion were conducted for hospital
employees which saw much enthusiasm and the winners were awarded. In a function addressed by Dr.
Priyadarshi Tripathy, Consultant Cardiologist of the hospital, urged all to educate people that by
controlling risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, 80% of premature
deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided.
Quoting about the celebration, he mentioned that, observance of the day was a global campaign by
which individuals, families, communities, and governments around the world participate in activities to
take charge of their heart health and that of others. Through this campaign, the World Heart Federation
unites people from all countries and backgrounds in the fight against the cardio vascular disease burden
and inspires and drives international action to encourage heart-healthy living across the world. He
mentioned that, the theme of the present World Heart Day is – ‘Use Heart for Every Heart’, that invokes
all to consider better health and safe heart for every one, keep our heart safe and to work consistently
for safe heart health of others as heart health for everyone is a fundamental human right and a crucial
element of global health justice.
The programme was designed by Mr. S.J. Bagchi, Managing Committee Member and guided by Dr.
Sreejoy Patnaik, Managing Director. Key Officers namely Mr. Pramod Pani- Head- Human Resource, Mrs.
Manorama Mishra- Dy. Nursing Superintendent conducted the programme.
