40000 new transformers set up by Tata Power led Odisha Discoms sprucing up the network strength; benefitting lakhs of consumers

Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms have driven a remarkable transformation in the state’s power distribution network, laying a strong foundation for energy reliability, equitable access, and future-ready infrastructure. A key pillar of this transformation has been the extensive augmentation of Odisha’s distribution network—marked by the installation of over 40,000 distribution transformers across the four Discoms.

This large-scale capacity building has played a pivotal role in stabilizing voltage, reducing technical losses, and improving the quality of power supply across both urban and rural regions. It has also enabled better load management during peak hours, prevented local overloading, and ensured more reliable, uninterrupted power for newly electrified and high-growth areas. The enhanced network capacity is now better equipped to support rising electricity demand from sectors such as agriculture, MSMEs, and domestic consumers, while also laying the groundwork for future integration of renewable energy and electric vehicle infrastructure.

In addition to infrastructure expansion, the Discoms have delivered measurable gains in operational performance. AT&C losses have been reduced by an average of 11%, and over 10 lakh new connections have been energized with round the clock power availability in urban and rural areas.

This comprehensive capacity enhancement—backed by digitalisation, robust maintenance practices, and a customer-first approach—has positioned Odisha as a leading example of power distribution reform. The progress has also earned national recognition, with three Odisha Discoms achieving A+ ratings in the 13th Integrated Rating of Power Distribution Utilities (‘FY 2024).

These discoms remain committed to building a resilient, responsive, and future-ready power distribution network that supports the state’s aspirations for inclusive growth and energy security.

Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms operate four distribution companies across the state- TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL) in joint ventures with the Government of Odisha. Collectively, these Discoms serve a population of nearly 4.6 crores, covering both urban and rural areas.
