Dr. Susanta Pradhan successfully performs first TAVI procedure at Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar : In a remarkable advancement for cardiac care at Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Susanta Pradhan, Head of Department and Senior Interventional Cardiologist and his team, successfully performed the hospital’s first-ever Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure. The procedure was carried out on a 59-year-old female patient with severe Aortic Stenosis (AS), marking a significant milestone for the hospital and enhancing the region’s medical capabilities..

The patient, had a history of carcinoma rectosigmoid and underwent post-operative chemotherapy and radiotherapy, presented with recurrent pre-syncope and Class III angina, which left her with limited options for further treatment. Given her complex medical background and the high risks, TAVI emerged as the most viable alternative, offering a minimally invasive solution that greatly reduced the potential for complications.

Dr. Pradhan, known for his expertise in interventional cardiology, played a pivotal role in successfully performing this highly specialized procedure. With 15 years of experience in complex cardiac interventions, he has been at the forefront of adopting and implementing cutting-edge technologies to enhance patient outcomes. The use of TAVI technology in this procedure allowed for a smooth replacement of the diseased aortic valve, eliminating the need for a more invasive surgical approach.

Expressing his satisfaction with the procedure, Dr. Pradhan commented, “It brings me immense joy to witness the positive impact of this advanced technology on our patients’ lives. TAVI is a revolutionary procedure, especially for those who are unsuitable for conventional surgical treatments due to their other pre medical conditions. The success of this procedure is a testament to the future of interventional cardiology and our commitment to providing the best possible care to our patients.”
