TPWODL Strengthens LT Power Infrastructure in Sundargarh Town

Burla/Sundargarh, 13.05.2025: TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has undertaken a major infrastructure development initiative to upgrade the Low Tension (LT) electricity network in Sundargarh town. The project, covering 9.4 km of LT line, is being implemented under TPWODL’s own Capital Expenditure (Capex) scheme with an investment of ₹0.6 crore.

This strategic initiative is designed to fortify the power infrastructure for high-demand summer season, ensuring consistent and reliable electricity supply to the town’s urban population. The project scope includes reinforcement of the existing LT network and extension of new lines to address long-standing issues of power quality and safety. Till date, 8 km of the planned work has been completed, with the remaining 1.4 km currently in progress and nearing completion.

Once fully operational, the upgraded infrastructure will benefit approximately 5,000 consumers, largely comprising residential and commercial consumers in Sundargarh town. The improvements are expected to lead to enhanced power reliability, improved public and operational safety, and a substantial reduction in technical losses.

A key objective of the project is to mitigate recurring issues such as cable burnouts and damage to Distribution Transformers (DTRs), which have historically affected the region’s power supply stability. By modernizing the LT network, TPWODL aims to enhance the overall efficiency of power distribution, reduce the outages, and contribute to cost-effective energy management.

Commenting on the development, Mr. Parveen Verma, CEO, TPWODL said, “This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment towards delivering high-quality and safe electricity to our consumers. The Sundargarh LT network improvement is a critical step toward building a more resilient power infrastructure that meets both current and future demands.”
