Odisha Set to Host Sub Junior and Junior Aquatic Nationals Championship 2024 for the third time


Bhubaneswar, 5 August 2024— Odisha is all set to host the 40th Sub Junior and 50th Junior Aquatic Nationals Championship 2024, at the state-of-the-art aquatic centre at the Kalinga Stadium, from 6-11 August. Six days of challenging competitions are on the cards as over 1000 participants will vie for medals and look to rewrite records.

This event is a significant one for swimmers as it a selection criterion for the Asian Age Group Championship and is being conducted by the Swimming Federation of India in association with The Odisha State Swimming Association and the Sports & Youth Services Department.

This year, Odisha will be represented by a contingent of 39 talented swimmers; 21 boys and 18 girls. Mannata Mishra, Anshika Sahoo, Dhanvi Bhaumik in the girls group and Aritro Mallick and Jagjit Pradhan in the boys group are among the strong medal contenders.

The competition will feature seven event categories, ranging from freestyle to butterfly, providing a platform for young swimmers to excel and set new records. This marks the third time Odisha is hosting the Sub Junior and Junior Aquatic Nationals, underlining the state’s commitment to promoting swimming and nurturing talent.

The venue, known for its world-class facilities, has garnered widespread praise from swimmers and parents alike during the last edition.  Equipped with the latest technology and infrastructure, it offers an ideal environment for athletes to perform at their best.
The aquatic centre has been a focal point in Odisha’s efforts to develop a robust sports ecosystem for swimming, further cementing the state’s reputation as a leading sports destination.

Odisha has always been dedicated to promoting sports and providing athletes with the best facilities and support including Swimming which is amongst the priority sports for the state.


Secretary General, Swimming Federation of India (SFI), Monal Chokshi also shared his enthusiasm, saying, “The Sub Junior and Junior Aquatic Nationals is a crucial event for identifying and nurturing young talent. Odisha’s commitment to creating a world-class venue and supporting the development of swimming is commendable. We are confident that this championship will not only be a platform for remarkable performances but also inspire a new generation of swimmers.
