Odisha Vigilance Arrests Sri Girish Chandra Behera for Misappropriation of Government Funds

Balasore, Odisha – April 2, 2025: Odisha Vigilance has arrested Sri Girish Chandra Behera, In-Charge Secretary of Durgadevi Co-Operative Society, Durgadevi, District Balasore, for misappropriation of government funds under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

The accused, Sri Behera, allegedly diverted the indemnity claim amount totaling Rs. 5.8 lakhs, which was meant for 38 farmers who suffered losses during the years 2021-2023. The funds were fraudulently misused, causing financial distress to the intended beneficiaries.

Following the investigation, Balasore Vigilance Police Station has registered Case No. 2/2025 under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, along with Section 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused.

Sri Behera has been taken into custody and is being forwarded to the court. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and further action will be taken as per the law.
