Tata Power led Southern Odisha DISCOM Proud to powers India’s Strategic Defence and Critical Rare Earth Mining Centres – Factory that makes Sukhoi Su fighter jet engines to mining units of rare earth metals

Berhampur, August, 2025: Tata Power Led Southern Odisha DISCOM, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, is proud to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to two of the nation’s strategic installations.

These include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Sunabeda under the Ministry of Defence, and Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) Chhatrapur under the Department of Atomic Energy.

From April to June 2025, IREL recorded zero power interruptions, a feat made possible by TPSODL’s high-reliability infrastructure and precision grid management. HAL Sunabeda, the country’s premier facility for manufacturing engines powering the Sukhoi fighter aircraft, receives supply through a dedicated 132 kV metered line from the Sunabeda Grid Substation set up by TPSODL.

Similarly, IREL Chhatrapur—India’s strategic mineral processing plant producing rare-earth elements vital for nuclear energy, defence technologies, and advanced manufacturing—is powered through a 132 kV metered line from the Chhatrapur Grid Substation installed and maintained by TPSODL.

The role of the grid extends far beyond routine supply—it becomes pivotal during operational transitions, planned maintenance cycles, and auxiliary requirements, including township utilities and future expansion projects. TPSODL’s deployment of advanced systems—automated fault detection, drone-based surveillance, real-time load monitoring, and rapid-response maintenance squads—ensures stability even under peak demands.

For HAL Sunabeda, better reliability safeguards uninterrupted precision manufacturing, eliminating delays in defence production timelines. For IREL, it sustains round-the-clock rare-earth processing essential to clean energy technologies, aerospace components, and high-end electronics.

As India advances towards greater self-reliance in defence and critical technologies, TPSODL’s commitment to powering strategic installations stands as a benchmark in national service—ensuring that the lights seldom flicker at the country’s most important frontiers of innovation and security.
