Tata Steel Foundation Dedicates 2 Renovated Ponds to the Residents of Gobarghati


450 families will get benefitted


Kalinganagar: Tata Steel Foundation dedicated two renovated community ponds to the residents of Gobarghati Phase 2 Colony, Sukinda in Jajpur district of Odisha on Monday. These ponds will benefit 450 families living in the vicinity.

Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel & Director, Tata Steel Foundation inaugurated the ponds in the presence Damodar Soy, General Secretary, TSK Workers’ Union, Debdoot Mohanty, Chief, Corporate Services, Tata Steel Kalinganagar, Debanjan Mukherjee, Head, Kalinganagar Impact Cluster, and other members from the community.

After the renovation, facilities including concrete pathways, accessible gym instruments, playing areas, streetlights, fencing, boulder pitching, and manicured tree plantations have been added to the two pond areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Chanakya Chaudhary, shared: “The ponds in Gobarghati have significance in the everyday life and well-being of communities, which is well recognized by Tata Steel Foundation and has led to the renovation of both assets. We are hopeful that this effort will enhance the life of the ponds, well-being of people and ecological balance of the area. And we remain thankful to the people of Kalinganagar for reposing faith in Tata Steel and the Foundation.”

It may be noted here that besides fishing, the residents also perform festive rituals on the banks of these ponds. The water is also used in several other household activities and is critical to the survival of these families. The two ponds have water throughout the year as it is served by a perennial stream from the low-lying areas of Balohari village.
