TPCODL Urges Consumers to follow Electrical Safety Tips during the Monsoon Season and Stay Safe


Bhubaneswar, July 22 2025: TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, has taken several proactive steps to stay prepared for the monsoon. These safety measures are designed to keep power supply uninterrupted and ensure the safety of all customers and stakeholders during the rainy season.”

The monsoon season brings in challenges such as waterlogging, lightning and power fluctuations, which require heightened awareness and precautions to prevent electrical accidents. TPCODL encourages all consumers to adopt safe practices to protect themselves, their families and their property.

Essential Monsoon Safety Tips for Consumers:

Avoid Waterlogged Areas: Do not walk through or enter waterlogged zones as submerged electrical wires or appliances can pose severe risks of electric shock.

Unplug Electrical Appliances: Disconnect all non-essential appliances during lightening, heavy rain or storms to protect against power surges.

Inspect Electrical Installations: Regularly (at least once in a year) check your home wiring, functioning of RCCB/ELCB, MCB and fuses, and earthing to ensure they are in proper working condition.

Stay Away from Fallen Power Lines: Maintain a safe distance from any fallen power lines and report them immediately to TPCODL. Similarly never attempt to touch electrical poles and installations like transformers etc. while raining .  

Avoid Outdoor Activities During Storms: Refrain from outdoor activities in open fields. Never take shelter under tall trees, or metal structures during lightning or heavy rain.

Keep Electrical Outlets Dry: Ensure that electrical outlets and switches are dry and shielded from moisture using waterproof covers where possible.

Educate Children About Electrical Safety: Teach children the dangers of electricity and emphasize safe behavior during the monsoon.
