TPCODL’s Mobile Health Dispensaries Serving Devotees During Rath Yatra

TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Government of Odisha, continued its commitment to community wellbeing through its Mobile Health Dispensaries (MHDs) under the CSR initiative “Arogya.” This Rath Yatra, while the majestic chariots rolled through the sacred streets of Puri, TPCODL’s MHDs were on a mission of their own—delivering essential healthcare services to thousands of pilgrims.

Operating at three critical locations—near the TPCODL Control Room at Sharadhabali, the Palishree Mela by the sea beach, and Puri Railway Station—the mobile units provided medical attention to over 29,000 pilgrims during Rath Yatra, Bahuda Yatra, and Suna Besa.

Each MHD was equipped with a qualified team comprising a doctor, nurse, and pharmacist, offering primary medical services such as first aid, blood pressure checks, health consultations, and distribution of free medicines and ORS packets. These services were crucial for pilgrims facing heat exhaustion and minor ailments amidst the crowd of over a million devotees. More than just treatment, these teams provided compassionate, efficient care in high-pressure environments.

“Serving the devotees during Rath Yatra through our Mobile Health Dispensaries is our humble effort to ensure their well-being during this sacred journey. By providing timely medical care and support on the ground, we remain committed to standing by the community when they need us the most,” said Arvind Singh, CEO, TPCODL

Beyond festive occasions, TPCODL’s MHDs are a vital part of its ongoing CSR efforts. In the last year alone, they have served over 2 lakh individuals across 2,700 villages in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, and Paradeep electrical circles. For many in remote areas, these mobile units are the first point of medical access.

In times of crisis, these dispensaries have also functioned as emergency response units. During Cyclone Dana, TPCODL’s MHDs were among the first to reach underserved regions, providing urgent aid. In isolated geographies like Bagapatia in Kendrapada and Kankadahada in Dhenkanal, MHDs operate on pre-scheduled routes, often aligning with local events to ensure maximum reach.
